Working with Crisis

Introduction

A crisis is an event that requires immediate intervention in order to stop the situation getting worse.

Crisis Resolution Home Treatment teams are having a positive impact on local acute mental health services, providing an alternative to hospital admission for people experiencing a short-term mental health crisis.

But a recent report by the National Audit Office found that services are being limited by a lack of input from specialist health and social care professionals, variations in staffing levels across the country and too few admissions to hospital being assessed by CRHT teams.

Policies and procedures are essential to give guidance on what to do in a crisis, but ideally staff should also be trained in mental health crisis intervention and practical ways to help someone through what can be a life threatening situation.

Aims

This course is designed to give delegates an understanding of situational factors which may result in somebody ending up in a 'crisis' situation, underpinned by the belief and growing body of evidence that service users should play a vital part in helping organisations, teams and individuals develop practical guidance and tools to deal with possible scenarios in a proactive, but supportive and risk adverse way.

The training is designed to be interactive, thought provoking and engaging.
