Aims

The main aims of this course are to improve knowledge of the amended Mental Health Act as well as the Mental Capacity Act.

This course is aimed at Health and Social Care professionals, workers in the Voluntary Sector, Service Users and Carers.

An overview of the amendments to the Mental Health Act:

  • Definition of Mental Disorder and Criteria for Detention
  • Supervised Community Treatment (SCT)
  • Advocacy
  • Mental Health Review Tribunals
  • Professional roles
  • Nearest Relative rules
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS)
  • Age Appropriate Services
  • The MHA 2007 relating to assessment and compulsory detention


Further, there will be discussion of the Mental Capacity Act and how this sits alongside the MHA 2007.
